Cadillac was founded in 1902 by Henry Leland, he named his new company after Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac who was the founder of Detroit. In 1930 they were the first automaker to produce a V16 motor, they later produced a V12 to allow customers a wider range of motor choices V8, V12 or V16.  The V16 was noted for its incredibly smooth and quiet operation.
